Elephant Festival in Jaipur

The Elephant Festival is a unique festival in which elephants share the hot spot. Celebrated on the day of Holi in Jaipur, a number of elephants turned up on this day dressed in their best of embroidered velvets and gold ornaments to parade before an excited audience at the Chaugan or the Polo Ground in Jaipur. The processions of elephants, camels, horses, chariots, palanquins and canons are followed by the folk dances and events. Essentially the female elephants participate in this festival in several events like races, polo matches, tug-of-war and elephant fights. Finally, the festival comes to an end with the game of Polo. The best-groomed elephant is given the prize.

Gangaur Festival in Jaipur

The Gangaur Festival is a local festival of Rajasthan but is celebrated throughout the state with great dedication and devotion by both married and unmarried women. On this festival, women worship Goddess Gauri or Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. Gauri is believed to be the epitome of a perfect woman. The unmarried women worship them to be blessed with loving and caring husbands like lord Shiva while the married women worship them to be blessed with long and healthy life of their husbands and for their happy married life. The festival is celebrated for 18 days in which the woman had to fast for the entire period eating only once a day. The festival begins on the first day of Chaitra, i.e., the day just after Holi. Images of Isar and Gauri are made of clay to worship on the festival. The ladies are dressed in colorful dresses and ornaments and decorate their hands with mehendi.

Teej Festival in Jaipur

Teej Festival is celebrated in the month of Shravan (July-August) to commemorate the onset of the monsoon season. It is believed that after years of penance, Parvati was able to get Lord Shiva as her husband and was united with him on the day of Teej. Young girls and women dress up in green colored attire to sing, dance and make merry on the swings. They worship Goddess Parvati to be blessed with marital bliss. The weather has also changed a little with a welcome break from the heat and sweat with pouring of rains. An elaborate march is taken out on the roads of Jaipur for two continuous days.
